What is Number Train?
Number Train is an award-winning preschool class designed to help your children grow in confidence, learn new skills, and prepare for school through music, making, movement and maths!
The early building blocks of numeracy and ‘number sense’ are crucial for a child’s success in maths later on, and Number Train aims to teach these over the year through different themed adventures.
Each week, your child will board the imaginary Number Train and go on a journey of discovery as they travel all over the world and back in time! With a different destination each time, the sessions are guaranteed to keep your child engaged.
Watch them grow in confidence as they take part in fun activities, games, action songs, turn-taking, story telling and art & craft projects – all of which have an underlying focus on maths and the early years curriculum.
Help your preschool child to prepare for early years education, and enjoy watching them (and joining in!) as they dance with dinosaurs, race through the rainforest, sing in outer space, shop in the silly supermarket, get crafting in the castle … and SO much more!
Maths
It just wouldn’t be Number Train without a bit of maths! Carefully designed in line with the Early Years curriculum, Number Train will give your child a strong foundation in numeracy and aims to develop an enthusiasm for maths from a young age. Covering a wide range of skills, and familiarising children (and adults) with the terminology and techniques that will be used at school, Number Train sets children off on their maths journey with curiosity and confidence.
Movement
Children are often bursting with energy, so including lots of movement in our classes lets them keep their bodies active whilst still staying engaged. Our carefully planned sessions allow for ‘brain breaks’ which give the children time to move and they have been proved to help improve concentration and learning. So whether it’s a gross motor physical challenge like racing to collect hidden items, or a task requiring fine motor skills and dexterity, Number Train provides your children with a full body work out as they learn and prepares their upper body for writing in school.
Making
Every week, the children will have the opportunity to take part in a themed craft activity which they can complete in class and take home with them. Practising techniques such as painting, cutting and sticking and stamping, alongside maths skills like shape recognition, counting and sorting, consolidates ideas from the session, lets the children get creative, and provides a fun reminder of the class to share with friends and family!
Music
Music is a great way for the children to have fun and learn together! Memorable songs help children to learn skills such as counting, patterns, adding and subtraction, whilst dancing and playing instruments develop a wide range of abilities from rhythm to co-ordination. Nursery rhymes are a fun and familiar way introduce children to rhyme, rhythm and patterns and research shows that knowing a few by heart makes a difference to success in school. You’ll find yourself singing our special Number Train song around the kitchen in no time!
